Sam Giberson is an artist, woodworker, graphic designer, and web developer living and working in Midcoast Maine. Sam's current work explores the relationship between precision and play through the use of contrasting colors, materials, and three dimensional forms. He aims to strike the right balance of exactness while maintaining an undeniable handmade quality that adds warmth and depth to each piece. Working three dimensionally helps to create a dynamic experience through lines and shadows, drawing viewers in to investigate beyond the surface.
Sam is influenced by both the natural and built environments around him and in film. Taking inspiration from architecture, Sam explores precise forms and frameworks, while inspiration from the natural environment provides playfulness, and moments of improvisation. In his youth Sam spent countless hours roaming boatyards where his father worked, and continues to draw inspiration from the colors and materials he experienced there.
